Cycling South Africa confirms the calendar dates and provinces that will be hosting the South African National Championship events for cycling events in 2017. 

SA MTB CUP SERIES (XCO, CROSS COUNTRY – DH, DOWNHILL)

There will be four mountain bike cross-country events around the country next year, which form part of the SA MTB XCO Cup Series, each featuring a UCI category 1 rating for Elite Men and Women categories. Juniors will also be able to earn valuable UCI points as three of the four instalments of the series form part of the UCI Junior World XCO Series. Four Downhill races are on the cards, with two Western Cape provincials, one Gauteng provincial and a KZN event doubling as SA MTB DHI Cup Series races.

COUNTRYWIDE EVENTS

The web has been cast wide across the country this coming year with Western Cape hosting the Road and Track Cycling Championships as well as the opening round of the MTB Cup Series. Gauteng and Free State will also host legs of the MTB Cup Series, while Mpumalanga will stage the MTB XCO and DHI Championships. The City of Pietermaritzburg will once again host an array of mountain biking events, including the SA National Marathon Championships. The venue for the National BMX Championships is in Kempton Park.

NATIONAL MTB SERIES (XCM, MARATHON)
The 2017 Ashburton Investments National MTB series will further feature an exciting new series structure, with seven events in total, which will be made up of five 2-day stage races and two 1-day events. Riders will thus enjoy more of the trails around their favorite venues especially on the Sunday and get real value out of the weekend with the additional day’s racing at a very affordable price and even better seeding points. There will still be options to do the Saturday’s Marathon or Half-Marathon events as stand alone events (not for prize money) and the Fun Race and Fun Rides will also be one day events.The racing options at the five 2-day events will thus be as follow:
  • Marathon Stage Race (70km & 50km)
  • Half-Marathon Stage Race (45km & 35km)
  • Saturday Fun Race (20km)
  • Saturday Marathon only (70km)
  • Saturday Half-Marathon only (45km)
  • Sunday Fun Ride (10km)
