An introduction to one of the fabulous The Munga water-points is a proverbial oasis in the form of Tankwa River Lodge. Owned by Peter Van Wyk, this is a true elixir in a very dry and hot world! For those who are familiar with the Tankwa Karoo, they will tell you stories of a hot and dry air that lies low over the ground in the summer, making you long for the coolness of shade or a deep water.
Well the lodge has both! Situated on the banks of the rugged Tankwa river, the lodge has a sprinkling of trees and, of course, an ice cold pool.
There really is nothing else out there, so we are indebted to Peter for the use of his fantastic place. What’s more exciting is that it is open to the public. So if you want to experience a magical getaway unlike anything else, where the martian landscape of the Tankwa is tempered by the coolness of the lodge, then make sure you book a few days there. Hire out the house and slip back in time to an ancient and quiet world where solitude is the most precious of commodities.
