The Untamed African Mountain Bike Race, the Absa Cape Epic, is extremely popular and typically oversubscribed each year with hopefuls doing their best to gain an entry into the following year’s race. The majority of the entries are available through the Absa Cape Epic lottery system, but there are early entry guaranteed slots for those fastest on the button.

The early bird entries for the 2015 race (whereby the first 100 entrants get to participate on a first come, first served basis) will take place on Monday 31 March 2014 at 15:00 (GMT +2). The 2014 early bird entries have previously sold out in record time of 34 seconds last year – and is the only way to get into the race on a first come first served basis. The lottery, on the other hand, will immediately open after the early bird entries are sold on 31 March 2014 and run until Friday, 30 May 2014.

Professional riders can apply for a wildcard entry if they hold a valid UCI racing license and have appropriate racing qualifications. Those riders wishing to support one of the official charities, can buy a charity entry and thereby support a good cause. Entries are also available for media on request, but are limited.  Lastly, Absa Cape Epic volunteers receive a guaranteed entry to the following year’s race.

Successful entrants will be notified at the beginning of June, and can start their training programmes in anticipation of next year’s race. The cost is R53 700 per team and an international travel option is on offer. Those interested can register on the websiteat www.cape-epic.com, to obtain an early bird entry or enter the lottery on 31 March 2014.

Says Kevin Vermaak, Founder of the Absa Cape Epic: “The Absa Cape Epic is very popular and completely oversubsribed each year. Historically, the early bird entries have sold out within seconds. International demand to ride the Absa Cape Epic is growing year on year and the lottery system is the most unbiased way of managing the massive demand. In this way, we allow new riders from around South Africa and the world to participate annually. Next year’s event will take place from 15 to 22 March and we look forward to welcoming all participants to the Untamed African Mounatin Bike Race”.
