After a two-year absence, the Garmin MTB Classic is back! One of Gauteng’s favourite mountain bike races, the Garmin MTB Classic, which boasts the lowest entry fee of any race, takes place on Saturday 10 September at Taroko Trails, Modderfontein, Johannesburg.
Paid partnership with Garmin South Africa
Gauteng mountain bikers will be able to choose from three distances to celebrate the arrival of spring at one of Johannesburg’s favourite mountain bike trails venues. There’s the 10km for newcomers and youngsters, the 25km for those keen on a challenge and the 50km for experienced, fit racers.
“Because the majority of the trails at Taroko are singletrack, the distances can be deceptive. Singletrack requires constant concentration and brings the average speed down compared to gravel roads. We have made sure the events will all follow a stimulating route that is both challenging and rewarding,” said event organiser, Andrew Grobler.
“Taroko Trails has also been working on some changes to the routes and the Garmin MTB Classic will be the first event to use some of the new sections of trail. The venue really has developed into a very event-friendly location and we’re excited to take the Garmin MTB Classic there this year,” added Grobler.
The Garmin MTB Classic has an entry fee of just R60, making it the lowest entry fee of any major mountain bike event in the country.
“Garmin is one of the most significant brands in mountain biking and the majority of South African mountain bikers trust Garmin’s industry leading technology. Be it a GPS device, smart watch, Varia Radar or Rally power meter pedals, Garmin is synonymous with mountain biking performance and safety. The Garmin MTB Classic is a way for Garmin to give something back to mountain bikers who get to experience a premium class event at the same fee as what it costs to ride on any given day at Taroko Trails,” added Grobler.
