Our South African climate is generally considered mild to hot. But as we all know, it gets nippy here too. Dressing appropriately can become a real challenge at times, especially in autumn and spring. It’s nippy when you start your ride and can become baking hot within a couple of hours. Gilets are the ideal outer layer to help us manage this and Craft’s Craft-Gillet-17Performance Featherlight Vest is one of our favourite items of clothing, even in summer. You get gilets and you get gilets. Craft’s high quality gilet is made of ultra-lightweight woven fabric with a wind-protective shell in the front and elastic mesh fabric at the back for breathability and secure fit. It has a water repellent quality too, which helps keep you dry in light rain.

We love that it fits so well (no unnecessary flapping anywhere) and does it’s outer-layer protective job as intended, but we’re especially impressed at how small it folds when it’s time to remove and stow it in your pocket. Usually fabrics that fold so small aren’t very durable, but over the past few months, this garment has been through some pretty rough rides, had some tumbles and tree branch snags and is still going strong. There are also reflective strips front and rear for increased visibility in low light conditions and the full zip is of a high quality, very important for a garment that you want to add or remove quickly while pedalling.
