Winter’s just started but before long, we’ll be anticipating the arrival of Spring. The best way to fully appreciate the arrival of Spring is on your mountain bike. And the best place to do that is at the Ride2Nowhere, presented by WeChat from 8-10 September 2017. The three-day mountain bike stage event is based at McGregor, a peaceful, historic village that’s a two-hour drive to the east of Cape Town.

Ride2Nowhere is a strange name indeed, but it’s got that title for a couple of reasons:

  1. While there’s a daily start/finish line and timing and results, all of which denote ‘race’, it’s largely a ride because there is no daily cut-off time, the route isn’t super tough and the atmosphere isn’t filled with race tension.
  2. The main tar road out of the town of McGregor is called the Road to Nowhere because it heads into an eventual dead end in the mountains. Okay, for a motorist, that’s a dead-end, but for mountain bikers, that’s a very lively beginning…

September is the time of year when the flowers in the region are in full bloom, adding an explosion of colour to the beautiful slopes of the Breede River Valley region. Established in 1861, quaint isn’t quite a strong enough description of McGregor, a character-rich village that’s a regular host of arts and culinary gatherings and celebrations. So you are guaranteed as much off-the-bike stimulation as you are on it…

The sixth edition of The Ride2Nowhere, presented by WeChat will offer two distinct events, one for enthusiasts and Under-18s of roughly 40km of riding per day and one for more committed mountain bikers, covering around 60km per day. The entry number is limited to 350 and entries close on 30 July. Riders can enter as solo or teams of two.

Unlike most multi-day mountain events, Ride2Nowhere, presented by WeChat offers various entry packages that include (or exclude) certain meals. You also get to choose your own accommodation from a range of options in the town and surrounds. Because the event is supported by WeChat, if you activate your entry via WeChat, you get a substantial R1000 discount per person!
