Don’t leave them at home! Bring them along to experience the best of Boschendal. The FedHealth MTB Challenge is a two-day mountain bike festival that celebrates family, outdoors and fun. Yes, the 60km marathon event on Sunday 8 September is the primary challenge for committed mountain bikers, but it’s worth sharing the experience with your family because there are more events to cater for all.
The 30km half-marathon, also on Sunday 8 September, is perfect for the weekend-warrior, youth racers and the older riders that love a challenge, but not one that takes too long… And on the same day is the 15km Family Fun Ride, ideal for the newcomer to mountain biking, or a low-pressure, easy-to-complete opportunity for a family to enjoy together.
On Saturday 7 September the events are dedicated to kids – and picnics. Famous for its picnics, Boschendal offers the perfect post-race setting to celebrate the health of your kids, who have choice of distances, depending on age. There’s a 500m distance for the 0-5-year-olds, a 1.5km distance for the 6-9-year-olds and a 5km for the 10-13-year-olds.
Not surprisingly, the Fedhealth MTB Challenge, now in its fifth year, has already attracted a large pre-entry field. Entries close on 3 September 2019, so be sure to book your place in what’s become the recognised Western Cape mountain biking welcome to spring.
Much of the highly-rated Boschendal trails network will be used for the Fedhealth MTB Challenge routes, but the longer 60km marathon will also incorporate the superb trails in the neighbouring Banhoek Valley and on adjacent mountain bike-friendly landowner turf.
The first 1000 entrants will receive a complimentary commemorative event t-shirt and all entrants in the 15km, 30km and 60km events will get a goodie bag. There’s free post-event massage for all entrants and a Fedhealth Kids Zone with child minders to ensure parents get time to enjoy the riding. Fedhealth members get a free event entry and access to the Fedhealth VIP Zone.
