The Fedgroup Cradle 100 offers two events; a two-day mountain bike stage race and a one-day event kicking off at the idyllic Avianto Clubhouse on the edge of the Cradle of Humankind.

The two-day stage race covers a total distance of 100km, with a 45km Stage 1 (800m of ascent) and a 55km Stage 2 (900m of ascent) taking in some established and iconic mountain bike trails, as well as revealing new trails that will form part of a larger Fedgroup Trails network in the future.

There’s a high volume of stimulating singletrack on both days and trail conditions range from hardpack to loose-over-hardpack with some bedrock and stone surfaces in some sections.

In the stage race, there will be top three overall male and female prizes as well as podium recognition and prizes in the following categories:

Senior men and women: 19 to 29 years | Sub-veteran men and women: 30 to 39 years    | Veteran men and women: 40 to 49 years | Master men and women: 50+ years.

In the one-day race, there will be top three overall male and female prizes in both the 45km and 25km races, as well as podium recognition and prizes are as follows:

45km Race

Senior men and women: 19 to 29 years | Sub-veteran men and women: 30 to 39 years | Veteran men and women: 40 to 49 years | Master men and women: 50+ years.

25km Race

Junior men and women: 18 to 19 years | Youth boys and girls: 16 to 17 years | Sub-junior boys and girls: 14 to 15 years.

10km Race

Sprog boys and girls: 11 to 12 years| Nipper boys and girls: 7 to 10 years.

The event is Cycling South Africa sanctioned and will be run under Cycling South Africa marathon and stage race rules. Juniors (18 to 19 years) are permitted to compete in the stage race, but will not have category recognition. They will race against the senior men.

There will be refreshments and food on sale at the Avianto Clubhouse on both days and Fedgroup will sponsor all entrants with a pre-race coffee.

Spectators and supporters will be able to watch the racers at spectator points within 500 metres of the start/finish area and there will be entertainment for kids as well as a kids’ fun ride.

“We have had an amazing response in terms of entries for the stage race and expect the one-day race to fill up as we get closer to the race date. “We are also catering for eBike participants,” said Andrew Grobler, Fedgroup Cradle 100 Race Director.

“We understand the value of recognising various age categories and have ensured there are prizes for the top performers in all age groups at both events. All entrants will receive a valuable race pack and all finishers will earn a commemorative medal,” added Grobler.
