So it seems that Asrin Cycling’s James and Jens came with a plan, to take home the big cash, and that they did. All that stands between them at the prizemoney is four days of racing and 18 points, which they must still accumulate from stage finishes.

As far as the race is concerned, FedGroupITEC now have two hands on that yellow jersey after they extended their overall lead today over all the other teams. They have a good buffer over second placed RECM and I’m fairly sure that, bar any mishaps, they are strong enough to defend that jersey over the remaining four days.

I would expect to see one of the teams much further down on GC try and go for a long breakaway over the next couple of days, whilst the top five teams will all keep an eye on each other with no leeway to ‘run’. Always a tricky position to be in, and not a great one as it limits your chances at stage wins, which is all that might really be left in this race. But mountain biking can be cruel at the best of times, so we will wait and see how the race unfolds.

Expect to see the top three teams from today battle it out, but anything happens and there may be some surprises awaiting. Stay tuned for details, and for twitter updates, follow @Team _RECM, @FedGroupITEC, @bridgeCPT and @Mr_TREAD.
