Well today made for some exciting racing, with more to still come! The Karoo
can be very unforgiving and so much can still happen. FedGroupITEC were
lucky today that Konny never sustained a more serious injury in his crash,
but it’s also a small reminder for the other teams that you need to ride as
carefully as possible.
Tomorrow’s stage starts with a long hard climb up into the infamous
Kammanassie mountains, and because of that, I can’t see any teams other
than the top three or four teams make it over together. I remember from last
year, that the climb was relentless and seemed to never end. But eventually
it does, and it’s followed by a technical, steep descent where you will need
all your concentration.
RECM trail FedGroupITEC by 8 seconds, but it’s always easier to defend a
yellow jersey than to take it. There is no such thing as an easy day in this
race, so take nothing for granted, but I think we in for a feisty couple
days of racing left.
I would think a team like Westvaal-Bells would try and go for the stage and
should be in with a shout as they seem to be looking good. And of course
lets not forget that Asrin Cycling only need eight more points to secure
their cash bonus from yesterday, so that’s fairly big motivation for them.
Till tomorrow, when anything can actually happen!
