Goodyear has launched its new Wrangler range and it’s ideally suited to South African conditions for mid-to-long travel mountain bikes and eBikes. Here’s a closer look at the fresh Goodyear Wrangler MTF and MTR models – and why they’re different.

What you want from a tyre on a mid-to-long travel mountain bike, or an e-MTB, is the right mix of traction, rolling speed, durability and weight. These bikes hit trail features at higher speeds and with greater impact than most mountain bikes and its essential that the rider is confident in his or her tyres.
Leading tyre technology through Goodyear and Rubber Kinetics and significant development with top riders in this segment, has produced the Goodyear Wrangler, a robust, grippy tyre for dry, dusty and rocky conditions, which is essentially most of the trails in South Africa, most of the year.
With so much experience in off-road motorcycle tyres, Goodyear used inspiration from its high performance Moto-X tyres to design the Wrangler, which features in-block sipe design that provides additional biting edges to further maximize grip. The Wrangler has front and rear-specific tyres, the MTF and MTR respectively.
The Wrangler marks the first introduction of the e-Bike-specific ElectricDrive concept into mountain bike tyres, which features materials and construction that provide additional support and protection while maintaining exceptional grip and battery life.
“The Wrangler is an exciting addition to our mountain bike lineup. As the newest member of our gravity range, it sits next to our popular Newton and targets dry and rocky conditions,” says Bastien Donzé, Product Director for Goodyear Bicycle Tyres.
“Over the course of the Wrangler’s development, including multiple iterations, prototypes and an extensive field test programme in a variety of conditions and trails around the world, we have truly come up with a tyre that helps enable a better ride. With so much grip and support on tap, the Wrangler gives you the confidence to keep it wide open at all times,” added Donzé.
