The inaugural edition of Gravel Burn, a new seven-day, 850km gravel stage race has been launched. In order to elevate awareness, race founder, Kevin Vermaak and his team are hosting Firestarter sessions in South Africa’s major cycling hubs. This week they are in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Following the success of the Absa Cape Epic, which he founded more than 20 years ago, Vermaak has set his sights on a new event in the fledgling gravel cycling discipline. Gravel Burn has been designed to appeal to endurance cyclists and stage-race enthusiasts. You can read about the launch here.

The first edition will be held from 26 October–1 November 2025. Entries for the limited-field race will open on 3 December 2024. A race of this magnitude requires significant commitment from entrants. As a result, there is plenty of information required.

The Gravel Burn Firestarter sessions will start at 18h00 and end around 20h00. The vibe will be relaxed and there will be snacks and drinks available. You need to book your spot to ensure you are catered for. You can book via the links for each venue as follows:
