The 100km Mini Monster presents 1300m vertical ascent with 63km gravel and 37km tar while the 150km Gravel Monster encompasses 2000 vertical ascent with 85km gravel and 65km tar. Mountain-bikes are welcome and, courtesy of event partners, all riders who enter the Gravel Monster get a Ryder Tubeless Repair Kit free with their entry.

The race has seen a delightful entry response and the growth of ultra-distance gravel bike racing is abundantly clear.

The 150km event starts and finishes at the Welbedacht Estate Schalk Burger and Sons outside Wellington and includes the Bothmaskloof Pass in Riebeeck Kasteel in the first half and Bains Kloof Pass, 25km from the finish on the outskirts of Wellington.

The 100km “Mini Monster”, which starts in Riebeeck West at the Allesverloren Wine Estate and completes the final 100km of the 150km Gravel Monster route.

The route has been designed and will be managed by seasoned route director Pieter van Wyk.

The route features two spectators points and a waterpoint is situated every 30km. The first spectator point is at Pulpit Rock outside Riebeeck West at the 45km mark and the other is at Tulbagh Road 25km further. The points are easily accessible with normal vehicles and present delightful spots for loved ones to support their riders.

The final obstacle on both distances is Bains Kloof Pass, which starts 25km from the finish.

The route presents a balanced mix of provincial and privately owned gravel roads, jeep track and quiet tarred roads.
