Sports watch giant Suunto has joined the Absa Cape Epic sponsor family as the race’s official watch sponsor, including providing a Suunto activation station at 2016 race villages.

Offering product sales and information, free Suunto watch charging and data downloads as well as service and backup facilities for riders and spectators over the eight days of the race, which starts on 13 March.

“We are very pleased that Suunto and its world-class products have joined our team,” said Absa Cape Epic CEO Lynn Naudé. “As a brand synonymous with conquering new territory, we look forward to working with their team to bring valuable innovations and expertise to our race.” Suunto has signed a three-year agreement, joining a host of other long-term sponsors.

time this year – will be sporting a custom Suunto watch as he takes on the challenge. Suunto is internationally-renowned for manufacturing cutting-edge “wearable tech” – sports watches, diving instruments, compasses and other precision equipment.

Among many other features, Vermaak will be able to rely on Suunto’s battery life –  up to 200 hours. He will also be able to connect his watch wirelessly to his smartphone and use the free Suunto Movescount App to create a movie from the days riding as well as make any adjustments the watch may need on the go.

Suunto Managing Director David Harrington said he was similarly delighted to be on board: “The Absa Cape Epic has proved to be an excellent testing ground for all sorts of equipment over the years and we believe it is the perfect platform to show off what our Suunto watches can do.”

He added that he and his colleagues looked forward to meeting riders and everybody associated with the Absa Cape Epic at the Suunto activation: “The race has a deserved reputation for excellence and we believe that makes it a great fit for our watches.”
