With his victory in the Greyton MTB Classic this past weekend Team PSG’s Jurgens Uys won the Pennypinchers jurgens1MTB Series.

Uys’ winning time over the 47km was 1 hour, 54 minutes and 35 seconds.

“The first 10km were flat and a big group of some 12 riders rode together in a steady pace. I remembered the first climb from the stage we had in Greyton during the Cape Epic. Matthew (Lombardi) and I rode together over the top of the climb. With some 35km to go I dropped Matthew, I managed to stay away for the victory and overall series win. It was a nice route and we had some good weather to make for a great race in general. I also enjoyed riding with Matthew,” said Uys.

The other races in the series were the Simonsberg (45km) and Hottentots Holland (45km) Classics. Uys finished third in the Simonsberg race and won the Hottentots Holland Classic. Lourens Luus won the Simonsberg Classic. Uys won the series with 600 points. “Winning the series is a great feeling. I am glad that I can give good performances to thank my sponsors (Team PSG Giant) for their support.”

The next big race on the mountain biking calendar is Die Burger MTB Challenge on Saturday 2 August.
