The 2025 edition of the Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor Challenge, A.K.A Karoo to Mongau on 4 May gives gravel racers an opportunity to see just why the Klein Karoo is considered a gravel-racing paradise.

With two distances on offer the, Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor Challenge is ideal for all fitness levels. A bonus is that overall, there’s more descending than climbing! But of course, there are still some challenging ascents to ensure a rewarding day on the bike.
In the 110km race, Die Ompad, there is 869 metres of ascent and 1605 metres of descent; while in the 80km race, Die Kortpad, there is 646 metres of ascent and 1383 metres descent. How is this possible? It’s a point-to-point race. But what about logistics? Relax! A shuttle service is included in what really is an unforgettable adventure. Private transport to the start is also permitted, which enables your supporters play a more integral role in your race.
The Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor Challenge is organised by Makadas Adventures , an established cycling events company based in Montagu that has been delivering unique cycling events for more than a decade.
The quaint town of Montagu is the gateway to the Klein Karroo and is a two-hour drive from Cape Town, making it possible to treat the Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor Challenge as a full day of adventure. But most will book at least one night’s stay in one of the many tourist-focussed establishments in the area and take in the Klein Karoo culture and cuisine.
The gravel race will include 4km of tar road with the rest gravel road – no singletrack, no jeep track. It’s a proper gravel race that’s open to both gravel bikes and mountain bikes. Provision is also made for eBike participants.
The race starts in the “Karoo/Agterveld” and heads east towards the sunrise, traversing the Anysberg Nature Reserve before it turns west, making its way towards the picturesque town of Montagu. Entrants will experience sweeping views of vast plains, rugged mountains, unique flora, charming settlements and wildlife.
