Old Mutual go2berg teams up with Trans Portugal and Berg & Bush to add spice to the dice
We are extremely excited to announce that we have teamed up with Trans Portugal and Berg and Bush to offer some incredible prizes in our age group categories. Winning more adventure on your bike will keep the wheels rolling fast.
The Old Mutual go2berg race is a solo stage race. Riding with groups, with mates, is still encouraged. Timing will be solo.
We are also very chuffed to be offering substantial prize money for our Open Men and Opens Women categories – like the Tour de France, teamwork can help – but there will be only one man and one woman who will take the glory. Race the beloved country?
There are those who love to push themselves, to test themselves, to race against others like them, others their age from all over the world. They may speak a different language off the bike but when they are locked and loaded, they all speak the same universal language without saying a word. Racing gives them a natural high, a boost, a target to aim at, a goal. They know they may not always win, and it can’t hurt, but they come back stronger. They train hard and they want to find out where they fit in. They want to find out if they can stand out. They know what pain feels like, and they know that pain is sometimes the only way to pleasure.
If this sounds like you – then racing is for you – this is where solo riders put their hands up and go for glory – no team mate to blame, no excuses just you versus the rest.
Ride the beloved country?
And then there is the rider who wants to be fit to enjoy the ride. They also want to challenge themselves but mostly they just want get on their bikes and escape from all the decision making, the noise and the hype that hits us hard every day. These riders want the journey to be more important than the destination. They replace energy drinks with cold beer and gin & tonics as soon as possible in the chill zones. They still train smart, and they know it is not a ride in the park but winning and times are not as important – the only thing that matters is A Great Time. They ride solo, they ride with mates in groups, they stop to talk to farmers preparing feasts at waterpoints, they make new friends with riders from around the world. They ride fast enough to not be out all day and slow enough to smell the roses.
And there is the E biker…
This is the rider who just does not have time to train properly and who might miss out riding with his or her mates. This is the rider who has medical conditions making it impossible to ride on a normal bike. This is the rider who cannot keep up with their partner and never has and they finally they get to ride together. But mostly this is for the rider who wants to really take in the country, take pictures, talk to farmers for longer than other riders, stop often to smell the roses and become one with the fresh smell of cow dung. For 2025 all E Bikers have a great time out on route. We will be having lots of fun filled with surprises.

New routes, new trails, new stories
Every year we up our game to find new farms, trails and to keep things moving in the right direction. We will head out on the trails in May with some exciting developments.
The Old Mutual go2berg is a tough rewarding and uplifting mountain bike stage ride. With the right amount of preparation and effort you will have a great 7 days of proper escape from bored meetings, cell phones, decision making, and the news. You can switch off and ride.
