Mountain bike enthusiasts taking part in the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails at the end of November can look forward to being part of the mountain bike party of the year while supporting a good cause, the Aitsa Aftercare Centre.
According to Aitsa After Care Centre Founder and Manager, Marietjie Steyn, the Centre opened its first class in January 2014 with 35 Grade R learners. “Most of the parents in the area have full time jobs, but no one to look after their children in the afternoons,” says Steyn. “The Aitsa Aftercare Centre strives to expose children to fun activities and programs in an alternative home environment where they feel loved and special. We take in 35 children every year in Grade R and progress with the rest of the group to the next grade. We are blessed with amazing volunteers that share their talent and passion with the children. Amongst an array of activities, children also get to take part in music, dance and art lessons. It’s a huge privilege for us, as a young project, to be adopted by a big event such as Origin Of Trails. We are looking forward to exposing the children to new places, spaces and faces, introducing them to the sport and people who enjoy the sport.”
Each Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails entrant will receive homemade placemats and a handcrafted gift compliments of the Aitsa Aftercare Centre. The children will also show their support on route by singing, blowing vuvuzelas and serving locally made koeksisters and/or vetkoek at the water point in Kylemore.
