There’s nothing that truly compares to the experience of riding mountain bikes with friends on the thoughtfully crafted singletrack near the source of the Tugela River and under the shadow of the fabled Amphitheatre. And that’s exactly what you get when you sign up for RidetheBerg Reset, plus a whole lot more…
Paid partnership with RidetheBerg
RidetheBerg started out as a two-stage race, which became the inspiration to build at least 100km of singletrack that’s maintained, marked and which has an incredible view from every single turn! It’s now grown into a more refined bucket-list experience, where the riding is just one of the features of an unforgettable escape to the country’s biggest mountains, designed to leave you more fulfilled than exhausted. Hence the addition to the name: Reset.
“South Africa is the mountain bike stage race capital of the world. You can do a stage race almost every month of the year somewhere. But we quickly discovered that RidetheBerg was really very different to a classic stage race and that motivated us to hone it into the most memorable mountain biking escape,” said Chris Mecklenborg, event director.
“The racing mindset is one of pressure and haste. It really doesn’t do this region any justice to hurry through here. The spectacular Drakensberg peaks, unspoiled land, crystal clear rivers, crisp mountain air and free-roaming wildlife are best experienced at a moderate pace, where Instagram-worthy pauses are encouraged,” added Mecklenborg, the man responsible for the building of the trails network in the region over the past two decades.
RidetheBerg Reset includes two days of riding the stunning Northern Berg trails, which TREAD Media recently ranked No 3 in the country! The rides each day are guided or self-navigated (with an old-school narrative for directions). There’s not a two-man tent or shower queue in sight because the accommodation is at the exclusive four-star-graded Montusi Mountain Lodge, where comfort is a given and a great vibe is guaranteed.
RidetheBerg 2022 is from Friday 21 October until Sunday 23 October and includes all meals for the duration, Friday sundowners, optional Yoga sessions, snacks and refreshments for ride stops, trails access pass and a commemorate RidetheBerg garment. There are options for solo or sharing and there’s also a non-riding supporter package ,which makes it possible for family to share your experience.
Montusi Mountain Lodge is a 3-hour drive from Johannesburg and Durban, located in the Northern Drakensberg that’s world renowned for its stunning natural beauty and iconic landmarks.
