The route has been finalised for SA’s ‘MTB Party of the Year’, the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience that starts and finish at Coetzenburg Stellenbosch University on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November 2022 and mountain bikers are in for a treat!
“The Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience is an individual 2-day MTB Stage Race that is ideal for all mountain biking enthusiasts. It is SA’s ‘MTB Party of the Year’ after all,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Event. “Entrants can choose between a Full Marathon that caters for mountain bikers that possess a moderate level of fitness and experience, and a Half Marathon that is the perfect event for those riders that are looking to have a fun experience on route.”
Stage One of the Marathon will include five moderate climbs with very little flat sections. Iconic farms to look out for on route will include Lanzerac, Coetzenburg, Stellekaya, Mont Marie, Chaloner Estate, Dornier and Vriesenhof. This stage boasts exciting new trails in Botmaskop, large sections of single track that aren’t accessible during the year, the well-known floating bridge at Mont Marie as well as the iconic G-Spot. Look forward to experiencing surprising features in Stellekaya and Mont Marie.
Stage Two will feature open roads and easier single track. Farms that will form part of this stage will include Blaauwklippen, Stellenrust, Annandale, Alto, Ernie Els, Guardian Peak, Audacia and Spier. Memorable sections are sure to be the single track in Alto and Ernie Els, Stellenbosch Airfield and a vast network of new trails at Spier.
Stage One of the Half Marathon will consist of open roads and fun single track. Look forward to experiencing trails at Coetzenburg, Stellekaya, Mont Marie, Dornier and Vriesenhof. The trails at Dornier and the floating bridge at Mont Marie are guaranteed route highlights. This stage is not very technical but does include quite a bit of climbing. Stage Two will predominantly consist of open flat trails through Blaauwklippen, Stellenrust, Audacia, Annandale and Spier. The water point at the Stellenbosch Flying Club will add excitement.
In closing, Meyer adds: “Irrespective of the event entered (Full Marathon or Half Marathon), all Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience routes will highlight the beauty and splendor of Stellenbosch. Mountain bikers can look forward to experiencing a vast network of world-class and exclusive trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.”
