As we near the end of the year, we’re preparing our popular annual South African Mountain Biking Survey, which will kick off later this month. Garmin has once again committed as our presenting partner. Before we start examining 2022, we thought you’d like a reminder of which the top mountain biking brands were for 2021.
A total of 3093 mountain bikers from across the country took our 53-question survey late last year. We split the survey into different parts when we did the reveals. Here’s a look back at which brands South African mountain bikers favoured. Where relevant, we also show comparisons to 2020 and 2019.
BIKE BRANDS
Specialized, SCOTT and Giant were the top three bike brands respectively, while Maxxis and SRAM were the leading tyre and component brands. We also examined stats on type of bike, wheel size and drivetrain choice. Check it out here.
GEAR BRANDS
Specialized, Ciovita, Oakley and Versus were the leading brands in helmets, shoes, gloves, riding jerseys, shorts and socks last year. Check out what kind of lead they enjoyed as well as which other brands were strongly favoured by South Africans here.
GADGET BRANDS
Garmin, Wahoo and Zwift were the leading brands among South African mountain bikers in the GPS, Smart watch, Indoor trainer and Training app categories. We also revealed other interesting information about training choices here.
