SCOTT’s Addict is the ultimate road race weapon! No-compromises, just pure speed as shown by the Team DSM WorldTour pro racers. While speed is essential in Gravel Racing, there’s been a significant focus on comfort to offer the rider the ability to minimise fatigue. SCOTT’s engineers have found a way bring the Addict’s speed to Gravel – with a measure of comfort.

“The reality is that if you are a serious Gravel Racer, you are going to be more focused on speed than comfort. With the SCOTT Addict RC Gravel, SCOTT’s engineers have essentially designed elements that offer comfort without taking away the absolute speediness that the Addict offers on the tar,” said Joggie Prinsloo, SCOTTS Sports Africa Brand Manager.

“We are seeing a big switch to gravel racing from road racers in South Africa. These riders are accustomed to lightweight, responsive, fast bikes. The SCOTT Addict RC Gravel gives them all of that to ensure they don’t lose that familiar edge when they race on gravel roads,” said Prinsloo.

“Obviously the Addict RC Gravel is the flagship gravel bike, but we have catered for the full spectrum of South African gravel racers, with a total of seven models, starting at a recommended retail price of a very affordable R34 990. With popular local events like the Karoo to Coast now CSA sanctioned and open to gravel bikes and some big international gravel racing scheduled to be staged in South Africa from next year, SCOTT is well positioned to deliver gravel bikes for recreational and serious gravel racers,” added Prinsloo.

CARBON FRAME OPTIMISATION

What is different from the SCOTT Addict RC Road bike on the Gravel edition? Well, for starters, the carbon fibre layering on the frame has been adjusted. SCOTT’s Evo-Lap Technology incorporates the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to lay up advanced carbon fibres.

With Evo-Lap technology, SCOTT’s engineers model the frame to optimise the surface area, simulate tube structures with different ply orientations, observe the results of using different configurations, and test the stress distribution in different areas of the frame. Thanks to this extensive computer modelling, SCOTT is able to optimise the carbon layers in all the parts of the frame. The result is a super-light and compact frame that doesn’t sacrifice stiffness, comfort or impact resistance.

AERO TUBE SHAPES

Gravel and aero can also go hand in hand. SCOTT’s patented airfoil design has been applied to the bike’s main tubes (downtube, headtube, seattube, seatpost, seatstays) with the goal of optimising the airflow and reducing the overall drag, without any compromise on comfort and compliance.

TAPERED HEADTUBE

The Addict Gravel Disc features 1 ¼–1 ½ inch Excentric Carbon steerer integrated bearings and a tapered headtube. The headtube diameter allows for wider connections of the toptube and downtube which results in an increased of torsional stiffness. The rigid front end enables direct, precise and safe handling of the bike, even in the most technical of turns.

SINGLE OR DOUBLE CHAINRING

Perfectly compatible with 1x and 2x drivetrains. For 1x, the front derailleur plate can be replaced with a bike-specific chain guide or closing plate.

COMFORT

To guarantee a controlled and smooth riding experience SCOTT increased the tyre clearance to 45mm, lowered the seat stays and came up with a carbon layering which guarantees both optimal pedalling efficiency and enough comfort when it gets rough.

FENDER MOUNTS

The Addict Gravel comes with well-hidden mounts for Syncros-specific fenders, making it a perfect commuter bike as well. The tyre clearance with fenders is 40mm.
