South African accessories brand, Ryder, has been recognised with a prestigious Eurobike Award for its Luberetta product, which simplifies the application of lubricant to bicycle chains in an eco-friendly way.

The Eurobike 2021 Awards were announced on 1 September 2021 at Eurobike, the world’s most prestigious bicycle trade show in Friedrichschafen, Germany. This is the 16th edition of the awards, which are considered among the most significant in the bicycle industry due to the independent and transparent evaluation process.

Since Eurobike 2020 was cancelled due to the restrictions implemented around the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 edition recognises products from 2019 and 2020. Over 400 products were entered from various categories and a six-strong expert panel of judges had the final say on which were worthy of an award.

Designed and manufactured in South Africa, the Ryder Luberetta is a portable 15ml container with a screw-on cap that allows the user to fill the container with his/her preferred lubricant. By placing the Luberetta over the inside bottom half of the chain and back pedalling, each link receives a drop of lube through the patented silicon dispenser. Not only does Luberetta simplify the chain lubrication process, it eliminates wastage and mess.

Ryder has been making cycling products since 1995. It’s range is vast, well-priced and widely available in South Africa. However it’s more recent focus on creating an eco-system of unique products to solve frustrating cycling problems in a functional, efficient manner, is what has seen the brand rise to international prominence.

The Luberetta is the latest in a range of Ryder Innovation accessories and tools that are small in size, but big in proficiency. The eco-system also includes The Nutcracker, a valve and hydraulic brake-pad tool; The Slug Plug and Slug Plug Dual tubeless tyre repair tools, The Slyder CO2 Bomb storage system, The Slyder 4-UP tyre repair storage system; The (super light) Tyre Levers; and The Groove Tool, a minimalist multi-tool.

The Ryder Innovation range is available at most South African bike shops. For more on the Ryder Innovation range, check out the website here.
