Continuing where we left off last year, Squirtlube is extending its Rider House program in 2016. The accommodation program has always had a long term vision and in line with that ideal as well as the success of the program last year, we feel justified and obligated to continue with it. There is still precious little support for emerging South African talent if and when they want to race internationally and this is our way of lending a hand to those with big dreams and lofty ambitions of giving it a go at the highest level in mountain biking.

The program is mainly aimed at accommodating South African riders, but will not be SquirtBenMeltTreadlimited to them as international athletes and teams sponsored by Squirt such as the BH SR Suntour KMC and the Brentjens MTB Racing Team will also be welcome to join. Our hope is that some of the European experience, expertise and knowledge will trickle down to the South African athletes as they make their way up the ranks.

Squirtlube personnel have already booked accommodation at the following UCI MTB XCO World Cup events in 2016:

  • Albstadt, Germany
  • La Bresse, France
  • Lenzerheide, Switzerland
  • Andorra, Spain

Stuart Marais, Team Spur’s Ariane Kleinhans , James Reid and mechanic JP Jacobs and the Kargo Pro MTB Team of Alan Hatherly, Hailey Smith, Frankie du Toit and manager Shaun Peschl have confirmed their stay at the Squirt Rider House for the above mentioned events.

Accommodation is also booked for the Marathon World Championships in Laissac, France where national champions Jennie Stenerhag, Ariane Kleinhans and Robyn de Groot have indicated their intentions to make use of the program.

Squirt is a proudly South African company and as such the long term vision of the program is still for it to be a vital part of the process that will see a South African mountain biker scale the podium at a World Cup and/or World Championship event. Squirt believes the talent and ambition is there, it’s just a question of enabling our hopefuls to fulfil their potential.

The accommodation will be supplied to riders free of charge, so the only cost to athletes will be travel and food expenses. Squirt personnel will also be staying at the same venues and can assist riders by coordinating travel arrangements and providing local knowledge and experience with an in-house official German language interpreter!

Currently there are still a few spots available and riders interested in forming part of the program can contact Squirt at info@squirtlube.com
