By crossing the finish line in first place at the Bastille MTB Classic in Franschhoek on Sunday Jurgens Uys from Team PSG Giant won his third race in a row.
Uys won the 45km in 1 hour, 53 minutes and 9 seconds. Stefan Ihlenfeldt got second place and Sybrandt Strauss was third.
It was Uys’ third victory in four races. He finished on the podium in all four the races. Uys is currently in good form and the 21-year-old started the race as the favourite. Uys and Ihlenfeldt got a gap on the rest of the field at a river crossing. Uys managed to ride Ihlenfeldt off a downhill section, but on a climb Ihlenfeldt succeeded in closing the gap. It was on the second downhill of the race that Uys dropped Ihlenfeldt for good and rode on his own to the finish.
“I am very happy with the way things are going at the moment. I love racing and to win is special every time. A weekend without racing just does not feel right! I hope to keep the momentum going with Die Burger MTB Challenge coming up. I really want to give another good performance,” said Uys.
Two years ago Uys won one of the shorter routes at Die Burger MTB Challenge.
Also for Team PSG Giant on Sunday Carla Hollander (27:06) won the 10km overall and older brother Morné finished second behind Joshua de Freitas (1:19.45) in the 32km race. Morné (1:21.02) won a sprint finish against Rossouw Bekker.
Next race on the calendar is Die Burger MTB Challenge on Saturday 2 August.
