Keen followers of Sam Pilgrim and Max Fredrikssen will know they have been in South Africa for the past couple of weeks. The two Monster-sponsored freeride mountain bikers made the most of the sunny Cape Town summer weather to ride and film some superb footage for the latest video in Pilgrim’s How I See It series. We asked Sam a few questions about the experience.

Why South Africa?

We chose South Africa because of its tropical vibes, amazing landscapes and endless riding spots that we thought the viewers would love!

What made the biggest impact on you on your South African trip?

I was last here 8 years ago or so and the amount the sport of mountain biking has grown  in that time over here is amazing! I’ll definitely be making annual trips out to this dreamy place.

What was the most difficult segment to shoot?

The most difficult clip was probably running up to the top of Lions Head for the final shot. We actually arrived a bit late so we did purely run the whole way up which was horrible! Worked out in the end though.

Which was your favourite place to ride, while in South Africa?

The Hellsend Compound where we’ve been staying was the best because the pristine dirt jumps were just so much fun to ride and the whole crew were awesome to hang out with!

How many locations did you shoot in total?

We shot in so many locations and quite a lot of them I don’t know but here’s a few I can recall:

Camps Bay

Lions Head

Atlantic Seaboard

Cape Town City

Stellenbosch town

Hellsend Dirt Compound

Cape Town Skate Park

Sooties Trails

Some mountain pass

Whose Merc did you ‘steal’?

That was just a random car parked, so we took it. 😉

How long did you take to shoot the video?

We spent two weeks filming the whole thing, it definitely is the most work I’ve put into a HOW I SEE IT video!

How long did you take to edit the video?

I edited the video every night adding in the new clips we filmed that day which helped to show what we still needed to film!

How has the response to the video been so far?

All the response has been great to the video and it seems to be doing great in views, but the most important thing is that people are happy while watching it and the comments so far would indicate that which I’m stoked about!
