At his first XCO World Champs in 2012, New Zealand’s Sam Gaze finished 46th, six-and-a-half minutes behind winner, Anton Cooper. He then decided that he wanted to race bikes full time and become the best he can be. This year, in a lengthy comeback from a series of injuries, Gaze won the XCC Elite World Champs, crashed and broke his collarbone in the XCO World Champs and then three weeks later won the Marathon World Champs.
