You can either wonder what it’s like to complete the Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen seven-day stage race, or you can stand a chance of winning an entry and experiencing one of South Africa’s best-loved mountain bike events, from 3-9 September – this year! Here’s how to enter.
Dryland Event Management and TREAD Media have collaborated to give away one two-rider team entry to a lucky entrant into this competition. TREAD Media, South Africa’s most influential mountain bike media and the Cape Pioneer Trek, a world-class South African race were both established in 2009.
The Cape Pioneer Trek is one of only three UCI-graded South African mountain bike stage races. This means that the standard of organisation must be very high, that there’s a high volume of media coverage and that there’s an attractive prize purse for the leading finishers.
Another requirement to be granted UCI status, the Cape Pioneer Trek must have a different route each year. This has resulted in the iconic race making the most of the existing trails and mountain passes as well as introducing new trails in the area in which it takes place.
And where exactly does the Cape Pioneer Trek take place? Well, it usually starts near or on the coast on the Garden Route, transfers over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Klein Karoo and finishes in Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich Capital of the World. There are three different biospheres through which the route passes that give the race its unique character and add to the challenges and rewards the riders experience every year. Here’s insight into the 2023 race route.
The race attracts hundreds of local and international discerning mountain bikers each year. A high percentage of those return because the stages aren’t too long, but long enough to challenge, the route changes each year, the food is consistently delicious (and nutritious) and everyone is treated like a VIP.

Terms and conditions:
The prize cannot be exchanged for cash. The prize is for the 2023 edition of the Cape Pioneer Trek only and cannot be deferred to a later edition. If you have already entered the 2023 edition, the prize will be valid the 2024 edition. The prize is for a standard two-rider team entry – all transport, transfers, accommodation and food not included. Meals for the race duration are included in the entry package. The prize can be downscaled to a Solo rider entry for the 2023 edition of the race. The winner will be notified by email and must confirm receipt of prize via return email. If there is no response after 48 hours, Dryland Event Management and TREAD Media reserve the right to redraw a new winner. The winner will be sent an email by Friday 9 June 2023 to give him/her time to find a teammate and start training!
